CMS Design Management & Marketing

At Unixworx System Design, we’re not only big believers in Content Management Systems, but we build and maintain some of the best, using popular operating systems such as FreeBSD & Linux. In this section, we outline the various options for Drupal and Joomla CMS Support.

CMS Systems are Big Business!
marketing management cmsThe biggest advantage a CMS system has over Static HTML (old style), is the content itself is “Dynamic” and remains “live” on the server. All editing, updates, images, and text can be easily updated and archived, then published at the push of a button, in real time. The content is then generated from a database into a webpage… Dynamically!

Both CMS Systems such as Drupal and Joomla have these features and many more depending on the version and modules you choose to install.

One of the greatest things about working with CMS is the ease of flexibility as well as their OpenSource license. By this we mean, because the system is OpenSource, you can do with it, pretty much as you please, including writing your own modules and code.

Each of these CMS Systems are Database driven, using either MySQL or PostgreSQL; both of which are a great choice for database platforms. Because the web output is displayed Dynamically, each CMS server must have the appropriate version of Apache, PHP and MySQL (or PostgreSQL) already installed and operational. As part of our ongoing commitment to Drupal, we take care of that for you!

Unixworx System Design provides Apache, PHP & MySQL Fully Managed Servers, as well as server side support & administration for Drupal and Joomla!

Linux and the Linux Family – The Choice for Development

Server SupportThe Linux family of operating systems include Slackware, Redhat® (CentOS), Ubuntu, SuSE and a few others including one mini-linux.

Although easy to work with, Linux operates under a different set of standards than BSD, therefore, we rank Linux second choice for web applications and a great alternative to Windows®, as a Desktop OS. In our opinion, Linux is better suited for Application development, Scientific Labs, Medical and Clinical Research Databases and Embedded Application Devices.

Linux Systems remain popular due to ease of use and wide-spread versatility. It’s an excellent choice if you run independent applications with smaller load factors and require a user friendly environment. Read more about Linux in the dropdown menus on this site.

Solaris OS®
To sum it up in one word Solaris = Stability.
Sun Microsystems® remains top on the ladder in so far as a robust Sys V Operating System. Sun Solaris® combines everything a Unix OS could ask for and much, much more. Solaris® is Not Free – In fact, the license is expensive. Solaris® runs on proprietary Sun® hardware as well as the Intel® platform. Companies that choose Sun®, do so to build very specific applications, for the most part running JAVA®.

Most “Unix like” operating systems are OpenSource which means they may be used in a variety of ways, without need for licensing. This allows OpenSource Operating Systems an advantage over Fee Based models, primarily through a low cost advantage, especially for large corporations that deploy multiple servers over a vast environment.

At Unixworx Systems, we believe in a “No Nonsense Approach” to doing business, as well as sharing our information, knowledge and skills. Our systems and the systems we deploy are fully documented so anyone within your organization can adapt and understand the system.

Before Choosing an Operating System understand what you need.

Often, clients come to us confused as to why their application isn’t doing what they want it to. In many cases it’s a direct cause of their choice of the operating system. This is particularly true for clients who attempt to run high volume web applications. Don’t make this mistake!

FreeBSD and the BSD® Family – The Choice for Web Applications
The BSD’s, Such as FreeBSD and NetBSD use Multi-threaded SMP architecture capable of executing the kernel in parallel over multiple processors and high performance file systems that optimize disk performance. The largest websites in the World use FreeBSD. The BSD firewall and security applications are second to none with a choice of several firewalls including PF and IPF. There are several levels of security to FreeBSD and it’s notable to add that not one single security advisory alert issued by CERT, has ever mentioned the BSD Operating System.

We Rank FreeBSD and the BSD family number #1, especially for high volume, resource driven web applications.

To summarize, FreeBSD is a robust true Unix* OS with all the security features you could ask for. Is it easy to administer? Simply put, it’s an advanced BSD based command line operating system that takes skill, knowledge and years of experience to completely understand and fully maintain.

When to use Solaris vs Linux

There are many operating systems out there, out of which the most popular is Windows, for sure. But it doesn’t mean that it is the best one for the purpose you want to use it for, since there are some make especially for certain tasks.

For example, Windows is made for the usual user, an office worker or for simple daily tasks, but its compatibility with almost every tool and program makes it so special. Mac OS is developed by Apple and is features some great programs for editing, so it is often used by people who work in media or design or escorts. It is also known for its safety and security. But what about Linux and Solaris, you will soon find out which one is better for you.

Advantages and disadvantages

The usability, the way the operating system is built and the purpose of the OS are the three factors that decide which one you should use. Linux is an open source embedded OS available for phones and tablets, which makes it quite available for everyone and it is free. However, some escorts London prefer Solaris because it has better support for DB and a much bigger, actually large ISV install base. These things might sound like gibberish for you right now, but once you get into it you will see why almost every escort from Escort Directory prefers it.

Solaris is much more stable than Linux and has a much better HW/SW integration, while Linux has excellent API’s. The Solaris’ binary compatibility and administration ability is also far ahead of the one given by Linux. Every escort will tell you that even though Linux is a much better built, they will choose Solaris because it is not that open and available for change by almost everyone. Users tend to want a certain lack of freedom when it comes to this kind of technology that they hardly understand, but still Linux is much more popular with a huge group of people.
